Why should you buy third-party certified equipment from Sioux?
Buying only “third-party” certified equipment is an important protection for your company, and should be an important part of determining what equipment is placed in any hazardous areas. More safety issues are emerging. Read more in NPOSA's Safety Alert 33.
Third-party certified equipment meets OSHA regulation 1910.303 (a). Accidents due to unsafe equipment can lead to loss of life, environmental damage, and costly litigation. Reduce the exposure of your company, your workers, and yourself by purchasing only third-party certified equipment.
Unless a manufacturer meets OSHA 1910.399 (ii) or (iii), they may claim “suitability-for” or “built-for” hazardous areas in their technical literature, but they do NOT meet these applicable U.S. federal regulations, and are therefore unacceptable for operation in hazardous areas.
Questions to ask when specifying a pressure washer:
1. Has the equipment been third-party certified, per OSHA 1910.399?
2. Can the manufacturer provide proof of their authorization to mark this equipment from a recognized third-party per OSHA 1910.303 (a) requiements?
3. If other equipment you purchase must meet safety codes, why wouldn't these same requirements apply to your cleaning equipment operated in the same room, section, or area (1910.307 (a))?
4. Do you wish to assume the liability if you decide to purchase equipment that is not certified?
Approved for a hazardous area, per OSHA 1910.307 (c)(2), means...
Equipment shall be approved not only for the class of location, but also for the ignitable or combustible properties of the specific gas, vapor, dust, or fiber that will be present. Note: NRPA 70, the National Electrical Code, lists or defines hazardous gases, vapors, and dusts by "Groups" characterized by their ignitable or combustible properties.
Educate yourself so the equipment you purchase meets federal safety requirements!
